After healing ourselves, we can bring our unique gifts to the world, which will ultimately lead to more happiness for the self and this ripples out to countless others. Ripples reverberate through the fabric of reality; a fabric so tightly woven that it is impossible to know what it would be like if one of the stitches had never been created. Of course, you can never really know for sure how big those ripples are. Prevention is immeasurable, and we cannot know how things would be different without something. Despite all of this, I don’t think there is a doubt in any of our minds that Dana has saved lives with her work.
Steve and I have been a part of EmbodyGR since it started at Fountain Street Church, about 5 years ago. Right away, I felt a sense of belonging and sacredness there and knew right away that I would go every week I possibly could. Each Wednesday at EmbodyGR is unique and inspiring in its’ own way. Sometimes, there are ceremonial practices, like calling in the directions: the spirits of the North, East, South, and West; Father Sky, and Mother Earth. Other times, we sit in our circle and tell stories from our lives that bring us either joy or pain. Sometimes, there is live music that fills the church with sacred melodies which echo against the stained glass windows as we stand in our poses. No matter the week, we always start by standing in a circle, doing initial poses together before a sweet poem is read. These practices help us connect to each other and to the earth and world around us on a deep level. The power feels palpable. As we struggle and relax on our mats, Dana speaks of empowerment and growth. We are inspired to feel like warriors of our own lives, to embody all that we wish to be.
Over the years, the compassion we have built together has helped me so much in my personal life. When I feel fearful or small, I think about what we have created together and it gives me so much strength and comfort. I am able to draw from the deep spring of energy I have felt, and helped to create, with my EmbodyGR yoga community. This sense of sacred community gives me so much courage to do the things I need to do for myself and the world.
Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD, the writer of the book ‘Women Who Run with the Wolves,’ states “The most calming and powerful actions you can do in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.” Dana embodies this light and shines it for all to see. When I first showed up, I was a struggling soul. I was struggling to figure out what I wanted for my life and how to even get the energy to obtain those goals once I knew them. Steve and I have made so much progress and in our lives since them and we continue to work on wielding our light for the world. Even though we don’t show up to the church as often as we used to, we definitely show up more in our lives, for what is important. EmbodyGR has forever captured our hearts. Our flames have grown stronger and I know they will only continue to blaze because of our big little yoga community."
